Wild Kingdom, Nearly Forgotten

I was going through pictures and spotted some that I forgot to post. I think these were taken in January. We woke up one morning to find this little punk on the porch. Well, I leave for work early, and go out the back door to the alley, so I didn't know about it until HH6 called and told me she spotted it just before stepping out with the RTO. Good thing we have all that glass in the front door - may have saved some serious injuries:

HH6 left out the back door that morning, too, and walked around to the car. When I got home the little runt was still there, cute as all get out, but I had to get rid of it. So I grabbed a ski pole and leashed up the dog. As soon as Lucy caught sight of that thing she went nuts, which got the raccoon moving, and once there was enough space to ensure neither the dog or I were in danger of getting turned on, I opened the door and we chased it off between the houses. Haven't seen it since.

Coons are dangerous beasts, especially considering a lot of 'em are (or can be) rabid. I'm glad things worked out.

One of my soldiers once had one crawl into his fart sack with him in the field one night, and did some pretty good damage. The course of rabies shots lasted a month or more, as I recall.

I used to do the maintenence side of a large trailer park. Part of the job was to trap critters; the park bordered on a large forest preserve.

We had one family of raccoons that was very persistent. One night we saw the mom teaching the kids how to open trash dumpsters.

I trapped a few possums, too. They hiss at you when they're angry.

My only possum experience has been with already dead ones. We blew one up with a CO2 bomb once. It was beautiful.
